Using techniques of applied improvisational theatre, Hoffman-Longtin has trained health care professionals and biomedical researchers to have empathetic responses to the pandemic. Hoffman-Longlin states that "research studies indicate that improv techniques can increase scientists’ willingness to and confidence in their ability to communicate with the general public" and "with so much uncertainty, [her] goal is always to communicate accurate information at a level [her] audience understands."
Hoffman-Longtin's work uses techniques from theater to support commutation skill development in clinics, research labs, and communities. It is designed to improve the health of patients and the work experiences of scientists.
